The world-famous Illuminations need little introduction.
As well as the miles of traditional festoons and tableaux along the Promenade, there are now extraordinary 3D projection shows on the front of the Blackpool Tower building every night during Illuminations season.
No wonder it’s commonly known as the greatest free light show on Earth!
Whilst most visitors drive through the lights either by car, coach or bus, there are some more exciting and rewarding ways of viewing the dazzling displays. Hop aboard an open top tram for the clearest view of the lights, or perhaps a ride in a horses drawn carriage could be a special romantic treat.
You can of course walk through the Illuminations, with a warm coat and a bag of chips: the best way to get involved with the interactive elements of this uniquely Blackpool attraction.

Ride through the resort’s famous Blackpool Illuminations on your push bike or walk on foot.
Blackpool Illuminations – 30 August – 3 November
Britain’s most spectacular light show returns to Blackpool Promenade for another year. Including the 3D projection shows on the Blackpool Tower building throughout the season.
LightPool Festival – October half term

- Blackpool was home to the first electric tramway in mainland Britain back in 1885 and the operational fleet is comprised of many different tram cars that have been seen on the Blackpool tramway since the turn of the 20th century.

- One of the most popular ways to see the Illuminations is on one of our non-stop tours on our Illuminated or classic Heritage Trams. You can only board at Pleasure Beach and if you leave the tour you cannot rejoin it. The tour takes around 60/70 minutes and on the return part of the tour you can alight at Bispham, Cabin and North Pier. *We cannot operate these tours on 30/31 August as the Tramway is closed at Tower Headland for the Switch-On concerts.
