5 reasons to stay over in the Ribble Valley

Whether you’re to looking to escape to a cosy farm cottage in stunningly beautiful countryside, to sample delicious pub food accompanied by a pint of real ale or if you fancy more of a luxury getaway with the chance to unwind in a high quality spa then the Ribble Valley should be top of your list.

Here’s some ideas to get you started. Are you….

An aspiring home chef?
The brand new Cookery School should be top of your wish list. Positioned in the heart of the Northcote kitchen (which has held a Michelin star since 1996), the new cookery school offers an incredibly unique experience to hone new skills & dishes – ideal for enthusiastic cooks of all abilities.

Looking for good ghost story?
The infamous Lancashire witch trials of 1612 may have happened over 400 years ago but an air of mystery still hangs over Pendle Hill, especially on a misty morning and you’ll find that many. You can follow the Pendle Witches Walk or take a drive through the Ribble Valley following the route the accused witches would have travelled to Lancaster castle. The Assheton Arms at Downham is also on the route of the driving trail. Its newly opening rooms and award winning pub make this a perfect places (and completely un-spooky place) to stay over.

In need of some tlc?
Surrender and hand yourself over to the staff at Stanley House Hotel & Spa for a relaxing, rejuvenating and completely self-indulgent break in the Ribble Valley.  Previously a seventeenth-century manor house the hotel has been lovingly restored and converted into a 4 star hotel with first-class rooms, stylish restaurants and a breathtaking spa.

Struggling to keep a golfer happy?
If you’re other half can’t go away without the promise of the golf course then Mytton Fold Hotel & Golf Complex is the one to choose. Surrounded by 100 acre grounds this family run hotel has a challenging 18-hole par 72 golf course and a Taste Lancashire restaurant for après golf refueling. If the golf course doesn’t appeal, the marketing town Clitheroe is short drive away with its weekly market, hilltop Castle Museum and independent shops. There’s no shortage of places to eat, including the Emporium restaurant and the Exchange Coffee cafe.

Looking for an award winning pub meal in the almost middle of nowhere?
There are few pleasures in life as good as a walk on a clear crisp day followed by a really good meal in a friendly, ‘proper’ pub with a group of friends. The award winning and often raved about Parkers Arms in the tiny village of Newton-by-Bowland would be our recommendation especially as it won the Taste Lancashire Tourism Award in 2013. The seasonal menu includes traditional pub food such as pies, steak, and fish & chips, given a truly unique feel by Chef Stosie and her team. There’s no shortage of walking routes in the surrounding Forest of Bowland as the majority is open access, and the nearby Gisburn Forest Hub is a good base for off road cyclists and walkers if you’re feeling more active.
