There’s no party like a Blackpool party, and this week there are a few to get involved in. The end of the summer holidays don’t have to mean boring back to school shops and looking ahead to the colder months, instead you can join in with some great events and make the most of the last week before the school routine comes back.

As Blackpool prepares to dazzle the world with its famous Illuminations, you can join in with some of the biggest events in the town’s calendar. Take a look at what’s going on…

Ride the Lights

7pm-10pm Tuesday 29th September

Experience the enchantment of Ride the Lights! Head to Blackpool Promenade and join this special event, where you can enjoy a preview of Blackpool Illumination from your bike saddle before the official switch-on! What’s more the promenade is reserved for bikes and foot traffic only, so you won’t have to navigate any traffic while you enjoy the lights.

Blackpool Illumination Switch-On & Nickelodeon Parade

7pm Friday 1st September

The biggest party in Blackpool’s event calendar, the Illumination Switch-on is a family friendly event you will not want to miss. This year the event will kick off with a special Nickelodeon Parade where your little ones can meet SpongeBob SquarePants himself, members of the Paw Patrol, Monster High and more! This will be followed by a performance and the official Illuminations Switch-On moment by Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Then you can dance into the night under the magic of a special Illuminations light show and fireworks.

British Country Music Festival

From 7pm Friday 1st September – 6pm Sunday 3rd September

Returning to Blackpool Winter Gardens for its fourth year, the British Country Music Festival celebrates Country music singer-songwriters from the UK and Ireland over four indoor stages, including the iconic Empress Ballroom.

This years event will feature the legendary Blackpool-born Graham Nash OBE as headliner on the Saturday night, as well as Irish Born singer Donna Taggart on the Friday evening and well loved duo Campbell Jensen on the Sunday evening.

Heritage Tram Illumination Tours

From 8pm Saturday 2nd September

What better way to experience the Blackpool Illuminations than on one of the iconic Heritage Trams that you see making their way up the Promenade? Offering the best seat in the house, the trams make their way from Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach to Bispham showing you the full 6 mile route of the illuminations throughout the full duration of the Illuminations season. Kicking off from 2nd September you can be on one of the first illuminations tours of the year this weekend.

There are a number of fantastic, illuminated trams to choose from, including the Western Train and the HMS Blackpool. Both the open top single deck, and double deck trams will be in operation throughout the season this year too. The tram tours will run daily in September and October, reducing to 5 days a week in November and December.

These are the big events happening throughout one of the nation’s most famous seaside resorts this week, but the events don’t stop just because the summer holidays have. There are so many events to look forward to in Blackpool over the coming months including the World Firework Championships, Lightpool Festival, The Pleasure Beach’s Journey to Hell Freak Nights and more.
