Shireburn Arms Hotel, Clitheroe
If you are looking for the perfect place to see the magic of autumn, as the leaves change colour, then head to the breath-taking Ribble Valley. Here, nestled on the edge of the Forest of Bowland National Landscape, you’ll find the Shireburn Arms Hotel, the perfect place to relax and explore the local area, including the infamous Tolkien Trail walking route.
The Tolkien Trail is 7km long and takes in the beauty of the Ribble Valley and Stonyhurst College. The route is said to be on that JRR Tolkien regularly walked during visits to his son at the college, and where he was inspired to write about The Shire; an area that Lord of the Rings fans will know as Bilbo and Froddo's homeland. Light up Lancaster takes place over a full weekend in November and showcases a range of fantastic light installations and art pieces, some of which are completely unique to the Lancaster display and speak of the heritage of the area. The light displays make excellent use of Lancaster’s historic buildings and community spaces, including the majestic Lancaster Castle.
The Borough Rooms are right in the heart of the city and have themselves featured within the displays in previous years. The Borough Rooms are located within award-winning The Borough Pub, a beautiful Georgian building which serves pub classics and delicious desserts, all using local ingredients wherever possible and a range of locally crafted ales, lager and more.

The Hamlet, Samlesbury Hall, Preston
If a stay in a shepherd’s hut tickles your fancy, but you’re worried about being without the homely touches you are used to, then The Hamlet at Salesbury Hall is right for you.
