Leyland is a stone’s throw from junction 28 of the M6, if you prefer to use public transport, there are regular bus and train services to the town.  Leyland is famous for over a century of truck and bus building with vehicles exported world-wide   During your visit take some time to browse the local shops and Leyland Market, relax is one of the friendly local cafes or pubs such as the Market Ale House micro pub which offers local ales & ciders only.  For culture or open spaces why not visit the South Ribble Museum & Exhibition Centre or British Commercial Vehicle Museum, Worden Park, all are all within easy walking distance from the town centre.

April 28th 2017 will see the world’s first Truck Trail come to Leyland. Thirteen 6-foot replica trucks will become a semi-permanent feature at sites around the town centre for six months, celebrating Leyland’s 100 years of truck manufacturing heritage and inspiring a future generation of engineering capability.

Heading towards Blackburn, just off J31 on the M6, the very beautiful Samlesbury Hall is packed with nearly 700 years of history plus a great cafe restaurant and antiques shop. Look out for guided tours led by a Samlesbury Witch or Henry VIII, a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Open spaces:

Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve and Visitor Centre is a 27-acre wetland site which makes an ideal starting point for walks through the countryside and along the marshes to the west.  The visitor centre contains informative displays on the site's history, local wildlife and environment. The Centre is open each afternoon April to October - Tuesday to Sunday and November to March - Wednesday to Sunday and Bank Holidays other than Christmas Day)

Worden Park is located on the edge of Leyland is an outstanding Green Flag park, offering 150 acres of parkland where you can sit, relax and take time to explore the puzzle garden and Georgian Walled garden. The formal garden has a magnificent conservatory which was originally built in 1892, alongside is the famous hedge maze, which is one of very few such mazes and is free of charge, you can have some great fun finding your way into the centre, but it’s harder to find your way out. Take a stroll through the woodland, the children will love the playground area, the crazy golf course and riding on the miniature railway, there’s so much for you to do!

Hurst Grange ParkThe former estate of Hurst Grange Mansion offers a peaceful haven in Penwortham.  Enjoy a relaxing stroll in the attractive landscape of specimen trees, ponds and wildflower meadows. The site has retained the prestigious Green Flag Award every year since 2003

Withy Grove Park. Located in Bamber Bridge, the park includes the borough’s flagship play area. Children will love exploring the playground, which is one of the largest free facilities of its type in the north and has equipment for children from toddlers to juniors as well as a range of skate/BMX ramps rails and adventure sports equipment for teenagers.
