Welcome to the home of award-winning Italian-style luxury ice cream. Everything they do is centred on producing the finest quality ice cream, an aim perfected over four generations of the same Frederick family.
They have an incredible family history. A story which has been the subject of many a school show-and-tell projects over the years! The highlights start in 1896 when the Great-Grandfather left his small home town of Setterone (high in the Appennini Mountains in North West Italy) with his two brothers, who all walked to England to find work and a better life.
They originally settled in St Helens and started manufacturing real Italian ice cream. People loved it and the business grew. They enjoyed their success and the brothers started their own families.
In 1936, the Grandfather, Matthew, married his sweetheart, Mae Amelia, an Italian ice cream girl herself. Originally from the beautiful town of Vigiolo in Liguria, Italy, the Grandmother’s family, the Massas, had been making ice cream in Chorley, Lancashire since 1892. As a generous wedding gift, their Grandparents were given their very own ice cream shop and factory (our Bolton Road parlour) – and from here they still make all their delicious ice cream today!
Now Liz and Tony, the parents, are in charge, assisted by their children, making them the fourth generation of this very successful family!
Quality and luxury are the guiding principles. This drives their every decision. They continually look for new and innovative products and production methods, keeping them ahead of the game.
They manufacture the best quality luxury ice cream on the market. Their wholesale customers love their quick responses to requests for new flavours. And now with four high-spec Italian ice cream parlours, they retail their delicious products direct to customers.
They are Yell.com’s NW Family Business of the Year and have won so many product quality awards at the National Ice Cream Alliance’s annual competitions that they've run out of space in the offices to display them all! They have been National Champions and have countless industry diplomas for their ice cream.
At the heart of the action, their Bolton Road parlour is located at the historical home of the business. Here you can sample 42 flavours of ice cream, served on cones, in tubs or in one of theri famously delicious ice cream sundaes! There’s 12 different sundaes to choose from so whatever you fancy, they're sure to be able to make it.
The Bolton Road ice cream parlour also has a fabulous range of light snacks including freshly made pizzas. Paninis, sandwiches, jacket potatoes and salads all make for a delicious light meal. But for those in the mood for a meal, you can style up your very own perfect pizza. You choose the toppings and they'll make it and bake it for you in their special stone-based pizza ovens.
And perhaps you’ll want something to drink too. They serve barista-made coffees and a wide range of Fairtrade and herbal teas. They also have a good selection of cold drinks from branded cordials to fizzy pop. And check out their speciality ice cream milkshakes – these deliciously and decadently thick milkshakes are made for you using their luxury ice cream and are available in fresh fruit flavours or whip it up with any of their branded chocolate bars!
The Bolton Road store is open seven days a week 9am until 10pm throughout the summer and 9am to 8pm in the winter.
They are working with Lancashire County Council to ensure the safety of their customers on Bolton Road, around the ice cream parlour. They ask you to please park responsibly to ensure their neighbours can access their drives freely and to keep the traffic flowing on the A6. Why not park a little further away and enjoy a walk along the beautifully-restored canal towpath from Adlington or Chorley.
