Poulton-le-Fylde, Wyre

Discover the ancient market town of Poulton-le-Fylde which can trace its origins back as far as the Domesday Book, home to a range of high quality independent shops and well known stores. Enjoy a bite to eat as you stop in one of the many pretty cafes and tearooms. Poulton-le-Fylde has everything including an award winning railway station to make it even easier to visit and a superb ice cream and cafe at the New Penny Bar & Grill.

Poulton has a lively nightlife with a range of great  eateries, traditional pubs and late night bars with a selection of wines and real ales. The Thatched House Pub even has its own microbrewery on site.  Interestingly The Poulton Elk – a J D Wetherspoon pub named after a stone-age creature whose skeleton was found locally and is now in the Harris Museum at Preston.  There’s usually a live band to be heard at the weekend and beer and cider festivals held regularly. All in less than a square mile there are no less than 20 licensed venues to enjoy and only a stone’s throw away from one another.

The Market Cross, Fish Slab, Whipping Post and Stocks - stand in the Market Place and are rare items from Poulton's past, which date between the 17th and 18th Centuries. The stocks and whipping post are unpleasant reminders of the punishments wrongdoers might suffer, but it was also common for those begging for food in order to stay alive to be punished in this way.

St.Chads Church - A beautifully historic church situated in the centre of the town and famed for its crocus’. The first mention of a church in Poulton is in a document of 1094 but there could well have been an earlier established church.

Poulton Town Centre - Poulton is a shoppers paradise from health food stores to its own cobbler and teaming with a range of independent shops and brand name stores with plenty of parking to help  you get to your favourite shops

Poulton Market - There’s plenty of hustle and bustle on Monday market days (not open Bank Holidays) when the pedestrian area next to St Chad’s is filled with stalls selling everything and anything from delicious local produce to a can of paint.
