The seasons are changing and although it might only be September, it's a good idea to get in early to secure your pumpkin picking tickets so you can grab the best of the crop.
Pumpkin picking has become more and more popular over recent years, with families visiting patches to get special family photos and make those extra special memories. With patches offering pumpkins of all different kinds, sizes, chapes and colours, there are so many chances for you to find the perfect pumpkin, and some locations even offer carving stations so the mess doesn’t have to follow you home too.

The Pumpkin Picking Adventure at Windmill Animal Farm
10th – 31st October
The famous Pumpkin Picking Adventure is back again for another year, but this year it's better than ever!
Head to Windmill Animal Farm for a full day of Farmyard fun. With over 20,000 pumpkins at Windmill Animal Farm ready to be picked this October, in their no mud, no mess experience! The pumpkins will be housed in the Halloween Barn this year so you can enjoy selecting yours no matter the weather.
What's more, tickets to the event also include the chance to meet your favourite farmyard animals, explore the indoor attractions and outdoor adventures on the farm, hop aboard the farm train and play to your hearts content.
One pumpkin is included per ticket, but if that’s not enough you are welcome to purchase more pumpkins on the day. Wheelbarrows will be provided!
Farmer Ted's Pumpkin Festival
2nd October – 1st November
Get ready for a bewitching tedventure at the annual Farmer Ted's Pumpkin Festival as it returns for another year, this year with a new Pumpkin Village that just can't be missed. A children's tedventure that combines the thrill of Halloween with a delightful pumpkin extravaganza, and DINOSAURS!
Designed with young ghouls and goblins in mind, this festival offers a spooky but not-too-scary experience that's perfect for families and kids of all ages, including a free pumpkin for each child over 2. The experience also includes enrolment at the sorcery school, an end of day show, scary maize maze and the chance to get up close to the Jurrasic Tedventure; 12 animatronic dinosaurs that are in place around the farm. The brand new pumpkin village features displays of pumpkins and squashes, pumkin arches, rustic carts, and mountains of orange and autumnal displays, with photo opportunities around every corner. The fancy dress competitions and ghost storytelling sessions will also return.
Pumpkin Festival at Mrs Dowson's Farm Park
3rd – 31st October
Visit Mrs Dowson’s premium pumpkin patch this Halloween for a picture-perfect instagrammable adventure. Choose from 3 acres of homegrown pumpkins, including 12 rare, imported varieties. You can expect new characters, new autumn activities and much more.
The fun doesn’t have to stop at the pumpkin patch, your ticket also includes full farm admission, meaning you can go and explore some of the cute animals the farm park has to offer.
This year will see the return of Pumpkin Nights at the Farm, the adults only experience where you can pick the pumpkins under enchanted fairy lights after enjoying a welcome drink of baileys hot chocolate from the Farm Café. (opens 18th October).
Pumpkin Picking on the Farm at Greenlands Farm
3rd – 31st October
Grab a wheelbarrow and head onto the Pumpkin Patch and choose the perfect pumpkin for you from the thousands on offer. There are lots of photo opportunities around the farm for you to have with the family as you go. Once you’ve picked the perfect pumpkin, head to the carving station where you can create your very ownjack-o-lantern. Visitors can also enjoy animal encounters, bounce on the bouncy pillows, play in the play barn and explore the trick or treat trail.
Ridgeway Farm Pumpkin Festival
10th October – 31st October
The Ridgeway Farm Pumpkin Festival is back! With 15 different varieties of home-grown pumpkins in the patch, including warty, goblin, white, blue, pink, and fireball pumpkins you will be sure to find your perfect one. They're massive this year too, offering a wide selection to choose from.
Grab your wellies and come down to meet some of the friendly animals whilst you pick one of the amazing pumpkins. Even better, after picking your own pumpkin you can transport it (in one of the very stylish wheelbarrows) to the autumn orchard barn and where you can find animals, carving stations, decoration stations, refreshments and autumnal photo props!
Pumpkin Picking at Thornton Hall Farm

There are some creepy goings on at Thornton Hall Farm this Halloween. A spook-tacular family day out, packed with magical adventures – perfect entertainment for the whole family.
Grab your wheelbarrow and pick the perfect pumpkin in the mud free pumpkin patch. Don’t forget to capture a hauntingly perfect Halloween photograph with one of the frightful photo opportunities. Then get creative and carve up the most chilling creation in the dedicated pumpkin carving area!
As well as all the usual farm animal encounters and indoor/outdoor play. Pumpkin picking takes place on selected dates until 20th October, from 10th October through to the day itself you can also book into SPOOKS! at Thornton Hall Farm which includes pumpkin picking amongst the other goulish goings on.

Bowland Country Park
From 17th October
Bowland Country Park is now home to Bowland Kitchen garden and the pumpkin patch has been planted ready for excited little feet to explore it this October. There will be pumpkin picking on selected days throughout the month starting from £5 with one pumpkin taken away. Some sessions will also involve a hands on Halloween crafts and potion making workshop in the events space on site too!
Pumpkin Sunday at West Lancashire Light Railway
11th October
Jump on a steam train and enjoy a vintage ride while celebrating the season at West Lancashire Light Railway. enjoy two different engines, and light refreshments in the catering van and tearoom.
Halloween Pumpkin Fest at Samlesbury Hall
26th – 30th October
Something a little different is the Halloween Pumpkin Fest at Samlesbury Hall, Lancashire's most famous haunted house. The Hall's courtyard will be turned orange with all the colours of the season and you can pick up your own perfect pumpkin to take home and carve. The Hall itself will also be host to a pumpkin hunt and Halloween Quiz and there will be themed treats in the Hall's Tea Room and Garden eatery. Fancy Dress is encouraged!
