Europe's Longest stepping stones open at WWT Martin Mere this summer
WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, home to fascinating wetland wildlife such as flamingos and otters, is delighted to unveil an exciting new attraction set to open this summer.
Burscough is a well-established village just north of Ormskirk, known for its canal-side setting and strong agricultural roots. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal runs through the village, shaping much of its character, with Burscough Wharf at its centre offering a collection of independent shops, cafés and places to eat. The village has a long connection to farming, still reflected today in the surrounding landscape as well as in local produce and food businesses, including well-known names like Fiddler’s Lancashire Crisps.
There’s plenty to explore both in and around the village, from the historic Burscough Parish Church to nearby attractions such as Martin Mere Wetland Centre, a major site for wildlife and birdwatching. Windmill Animal Farm provides a family-friendly day out, while canal paths and open countryside offer opportunities for walking and cycling.
