Find your way to Fleming Square, a little street just over the road from the cathedral; sniff the air and the smell will lead you straight to one of Exchange Coffee’s three retail roasting outlets.
The building itself is pretty impressive. With its stone arch frontage – compete with carved head over the door, walking in feels like an event in itself. And the first thing you see inside is the roaster, surrounded by coffee sacks.
This was the original roasting shop of Exchange Coffee and the team still roasts here every day. Take a wander around and marvel at the array of coffees and equipment on sale – and check out the customised Cimbali M34 espresso machine – before finding a seat in the oak paneled area downstairs, an experience which is like stepping back in time. You could of course also sit in the light and airy upstairs or, on a warm day, enjoy sipping coffee in the square – your alfresco dining experience enhanced by one of Exchange’s cakes, or even a full Lancashire breakfast.
