About Whalley Abbey

The spectacular Whalley Abbey Site encompasses the extensive ruins of a 14th Century Cistercian Abbey within stunning grounds and gardens along with a Retreat House which runs all manner of retreats and events. It is the Diocese of Blackburn's Centre for Christian Discipleship and Prayer and also offers bed & breakfast and self-catering accommodation giving visitors the opportunity to fully experience this piece of Lancashire history. Located on the banks of the River Calder in the beautiful countryside of the Ribble Valley visitors can immerse themselves in the history of the Abbey and relax in the peaceful gardens and enjoy the essence of this special place. Visitors are also welcome to join daily prayers in the chapel. Please note there are no public toilets on site.
