About Lee Quarry Mountain Bike Trail

Over the past few years an exciting new breed of mountain bike trail centre has been developing in East Lancashire. Two disused quarries in the hills above Bacup, Rossendale have been turned in to a paradise for mountain bikers.

The trails are constantly being developed and there is now a network of red and black graded cross country trails in both Lee and Cragg Quarries.

Lee Quarry boasts around 8km of tough technical mountain bike trails comprising rock gardens, drop offs, tabletop jumps, challenging climbs and apparently, some of the biggest berms you will find in the UK. It also has a very popular pump track and four purpose built cycle trials areas. The trails have been designed to help riders develop their skills and learn new ones, these really are cutting edge routes.

There are 5km of Red trails with technical sections that riders can opt into as they develop their riding. There are also over 2km of challenging Black Trails and a skills development area with easier trails and technical challenges. The site includes a top standard Trials area which can host competitions and demonstration events.

Lee Quarry is also the starting point for the Rolling Boar Trails. The Rolling Boar trails are a series of waymarked routes which use the bridleway network around Rossendale. Volunteers from PMBA (Pennine Mountain Bike Action) have surveyed the bridleways in the area and put together routes which they think people will enjoy and which will enable people to start to explore the area. The Rolling Boar Trails are not mountain bike trails as such but make use of the bridleway network and offer the opportunity to try something a little different. The routes have been way marked in such a way that it is possible to ride for just an hour or two or by combining two or more of the trails turn it in to a daylong adventure.

Use of the trails is free and they are always open. All we ask is that you respect other users, whether they're on Mountain Bikes or not! It doesn’t matter what type of mountain bike you turn up on you will find something to challenge you.

There is ample parking around Lee Quarry as well as places to eat and drink nearby so you really can make a day of it.
