About Holden Clough Nurseries
Holden Clough Nursery is a family-run, award-winning plant nursery nestled within the picturesque countryside of The Ribble Valley, Lancashire. Specialists in growing hardy plants naturally outdoors, without polytunnels, against the challenging northern climate, meaning that the plants get the best start in their growing cycle. It's said "if it grows at Holden Clough, it'll grow anywhere" ... and it really is true. Holden Clough is a hidden gem, a destination, a day out...not just for the green-fingered plant lovers. Step inside the grounds and you'll find a labyrinth of quirky buildings and interesting nooks and crannies. The impressive Glasshouse is filled with ever changing displays of plants, tools, pots, gardening must haves, homewares & gifts. The Potting Shed is home to seeds, feeds, rustic furniture and curios handpicked from Europe, and where plants are potted, hence the name. It is also home to creative workshops, gardening talks and events - of which there are many! Wander upstairs and, you'll not only see the most magnificent view of Pendle Hill through the floor to ceiling window, but you'll also find The Pendle Mushroom Co. and resident artist John Rotherham, whilst Victoria of Hark Therapies has her talking therapy room on the side of this building too. There are also seasonal artisan markets, special Christmas markets, lots of creative and crafty workshops, talks and demos...and not forgetting the delectable on-site café and restaurant, The Reading Room Kitchen. A garden & flowerbed design service is available through the 'Wonder Garden' where you can get expert advice and design from owner John Foley and his team. The Nursery itself is steeped in a rich, fascinating history, with the Frameyard dating all the way back to 1927 when it was the garden kitchen for Holden Clough House, whose owner was a botanist and plant hunter, travelling the world and bringing back plants to the area. Today, The Frameyard is filled daily with one of the widest selections of plants, trees and shrubs across the North. Step into the world of Holden Clough, not to be missed if you're visiting Lancashire... for the wonder of plants, people, and nature...
