Add RSPB Leighton Moss and Morecambe Bay Nature Reserve to your Itinerary

Copywright Jen Walker

Come and discover some very special wildlife at RSPB Leighton Moss and Morecambe Bay. This awarding winning and popular nature reserve is home to a variety of amazing birds, mammals, wildflowers and insects – from majestic Marsh Harriers and delightful Bearded Tits to bats, Red Deer and Otters. If you are lucky, you may even spot one of the most elusive birds – the Bittern.

There’s plenty to see, hear and do at Leighton Moss - explore the nature trails that meander through the reedbed, head up the 9m high Skytower for spectacular views or just relax in the wildlife garden. Indulge in some retail therapy in the shop and enjoy some much needed refreshment in the café. If you arrive by public transport or bicycle you can enjoy a free tea or coffee with any food purchase over £4.

The reserve is for everyone. Families can follow the monthly quizzing trails and, in the spring and summer hire pond dipping kits. There are 5 bird hides on the main reserve and two at our coastal site just a 5-minute drive away.

There is a full range of events and guided walks, from Birdsong ID, and Dusk Discovery walks to photography workshops and a local Makers arts and craft market. The all-terrain mobility scooters are available for hire to help more people access the reserve.

Set within the Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape, Leighton Moss is a fantastic place to get up close to nature and admire stunning scenery at any time of year.
