Beacon Fell Country Park
About Beacon Fell Country Park
Welcome to Beacon Fell Country Park
Nestled in the heart of rural Lancashire, Beacon Fell Country Park offers 110 hectares (271 acres) of beautiful woodland, moorland, and traditional farmland to explore. Rising to 266 metres (873 feet) above sea level, the summit provides breath-taking panoramic views across the Forest of Bowland, Morecambe Bay and, on the clearest days, as far as the Isle of Man.
Whether you are looking for a peaceful woodland walk, a family day out, an opportunity to spot wildlife, or simply a place to enjoy the natural beauty of the Lancashire countryside, Beacon Fell has something for everyone. The park is home to an abundance of wildlife, rabbits and hares are frequent and are easily spotted. Roe deer are a little more elusive, but patience may well be rewarded! Stoats and weasels can be seen running across the road or clambering over the dry stone walls, while our ponds come alive in summer with as many as 11 species of colourful dragonflies and damselflies.
With a network of walking trails, picnic areas, play facilities and the Bowland Visitor Centre, Beacon Fell welcomes visitors of all ages throughout the year.
The Bowland Visitor Centre at Beacon Fell Country Park has been awarded a prestigious gold standard award by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS). 'We were commended on the quality of our information for visitors, aimed at encouraging children to explore and learn about the natural environment first hand. We also have excellent recycling facilities and a reed bed system for treating the wastewater generated by many of our 250,000 visitors a year using the toilets! Most people would expect a centre like ours to already be green, but going through the process, and receiving the award has been very beneficial. It is a reward for the efforts of our staff and has identified several areas where we can improve even further!'
Café
There is also an onsite café, open Tuesday to Sunday, offering eat-in and takeaway options, with breakfast sandwiches, hot and cold drinks, lunches, snacks, cakes, and ice cream. For more information visit Bowland Café - Lancashire County Council
