Carnforth
Carnforth is a small town with a strong railway heritage, best known as the filming location for David Lean’s 1945 classic 'Brief Encounter'. The historic railway station is now home to a heritage centre, where you can learn more about the film, see exhibitions and take a photo beneath the famous clock featured on screen. Beyond this, the town has a selection of independent shops and cafés.
The surrounding area opens up plenty of options for getting out and about. Warton Crag rises just above the town, offering walking routes and views across the area, while the nearby village of Warton is the ancestral home of George Washington. The Lancaster Canal runs close by, linking Carnforth to neighbouring villages and countryside, and attractions such as Leighton Hall and Greenlands Farm Village provide further reasons to stay a little longer and explore the area.
