Owd Nell’s Canalside Tavern

Owd Nell's stretch out and offers warm, nooks and crannies where they serves homemade 'country tavern fayre' all day every day. Carol finds the finest local seasonal produce daily and has being tempting customers for over 30 years.

The majority of the well kept traditional cask beers and ales are locally brewed. Firm favourites on the bar include, Boddingtons, Moorhouses, Thwaites, Cross Bay, Black Sheep and eight ever changing guests.  A range of traditional English ciders, continental lagers, soft drinks and wines from around the world available by the bottle or glass.  You won't just find beer on the bar, there is always a wheel of locally made cheese sitting prominently for you to enjoy with your drink.

Originally School House Farm, built in 1798 two years before the Lancaster Canal was completed and sits right next to it. The farm was renowned for Porter first brewed in 1832.  Reverend Thomas Duell, vicar at St Lawrence’s Church, Barton resided there while his vicarage was rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1832. School House Farm was bought from Mr and Mrs Fife in 1986 by Irene and Roy Wilkinson.
