Skelmersdale is one of Lancashire’s newer towns, developed in the 1960s, but with roots that reach back much further to Roman times and the area’s industrial past. Once a busy coal mining community, it has grown into a modern town with a strong local identity, combining residential areas with shopping, business and leisure facilities. The Concourse Shopping Centre sits at its heart, bringing together a wide range of high street names, independent traders and places to eat in one central location.
Running through the town, Tawd Valley Park creates a green corridor of open space, woodland and walking trails, offering a contrast to the built-up areas and plenty of room to get outdoors. The multi award-winning Secret Garden Glamping provides a different kind of stay, with thoughtfully designed accommodation set within natural surroundings.
