Vegan and vegetarian friendly restaurants in Lancashire

Calling all food lovers! We've put together a list of great places to eat across Lancashire that are either completely plant-based or have a fantastic vegan or vegetarian range of meals on their menu. Read on to find the places you should be putting on your to-visit list today.

Dedicated plant-based restaurants 

There are a number of cafes, restaurants and coffee shops across the county dedicated to offering plant-based only food and drink to cater for these dietary preferences, some of which are new on the scene and others that have stood the test of time.

Whale Tail Café, Lancaster

One of the longest serving plant-based cafes in Lancashire, the Whale Tail Café has been serving vegetarian and vegan options to visitors for over 25 years. The friendly café also specialises in serving gluten-free options and uses seasonal local, organic and fair-trade produce wherever possible. There is a separate children’s menu and a selection of children’s storybooks for kids to enjoy while visiting.

Lancaster is a bit of a plant-based foodies haven with The Herbarium and Pure Vegan also offering dedicated plant-based menus, and coffee shop Brew providing a wide range of meal and sweet treat vegetarian options.

Whins Green Kitchen, Chorley

Whether you're a lifelong vegan or just looking to incorporate more plant-based meals into your diet, you'll find something to love at Whins Green Kitchen near Chorley. This café is nestled in the hills overlooking the town, with stunning views over the Lancashire countryside and offers a huge selection of plant-based meals, from hearty soups and salads to savoury mains and handmade desserts. The café also offers an afternoon tea featuring soup, scone, cakes, sandwiches and unlimited tea, prosecco can be added too!

Wild Root Kitchen, Halsall

Wild Root is a fully plant-based café, deli and event space with onsite farm shop in the beautiful West Lancashire countryside. This dog-friendly option offers a range of homemade meals for breakfast and lunch, and even have a children’s menu for veggie loving little ones. Drinks on offer include cold-pressed juices, smoothies, speciality coffee, herbal teas and non-coffees like beetroot or turmeric lattes.

Good Life Superfood Kitchen and Coffee, Lytham

A brand new, vibrant spot for plant-based foods has opened in Lytham this January. The Good Life Superfood Kitchen is dedicated to delivering a wide range of speciality cofees, fruit juices, smoothies and Nourish bowls all with plant-based, wholesome ingredients.

Restaurants with fantastic vegetarian options 

We’re lucky that in Lancashire many restaurants and cafes offer a great selection of vegetarian and vegan options, even if they aren’t exclusively plant-based.

Café 1847, at Booths Clitheroe and Booths Hesketh Bank

Booths’ supermarket has a fantastic reputation for supplying residents and visitors to Lancashire with the best, locally sourced ingredients for their needs. This is the reputation that they brought along to their latest in-store cafés at Clitheroe and Hesketh Bank. These locations aim to celebrate the art of great coffee, expertly blended tea and delicious, locally made and sourced food providing the best northern welcome. There is a great menu available, with many vegetarian options to choose from!

The New Waggoners Inn, Burnley

Just outside of Burnley town centre you can find The New Waggoners Inn, a restaurant and bar overlooking the countryside with an excellent reputation. Not only will you find great customer service at the thriving restaurant, but you will also find a dedicated vegetarian and vegan menu, making your options very clear. There is also a great selection of cask ales to compliment your meal.

Blooms Restaurant, Garstang

Located within the stylish, unique Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre, Blooms Restaurant prides itself in providing meals that the whole family will love, with a stunning backdrop that works well for every occasion. The blooms menu is handily split to include a dedicated four-page vegetarian and vegan section which includes starters, tapas, mains, pizzas and desserts.

The Wolf Cafe, Silverdale 

The ideal place to escape to the tranquillity of Lancashire's countryside, yet with the coast within walking distance, The Wolf Café offers the best of both worlds when it comes to relaxing in nature. Their menu reflects too, with great vegetarian and Vegan menu options including a Vegan breakfast bowl the "Chuna" Sarnie - a chickpea (tuna alternative) focaccia with cucumber, red onion, seaweed nori and vegan mayo. Plus the café is well stocked with Lone Wolf Bakery's sweet treats, a number of which are vegan, and a selection of milk alternatives for their drinks too!
