About Petals & Pistons at The British Commercial Vehicle Museum

A museum full of remarkable machines transformed by magnificent flowers.

Historic commercial vehicles and stunning floral art will come together this September as Flowers North West celebrates its 65th anniversary with one of the region's most unusual exhibitions, Petals & Pistons.

A spectacular floral exhibition, featuring around 25 imaginative exhibits, created by talented designers and flower clubs from across Lancashire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man.  This is not your average flower show and not your average transport museum.  Petals & Pistons brings together two very different worlds under one roof.

Organised by Flowers North West, one of the 21 Areas of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS), the exhibition is the organisation's flagship event to mark 65 years of promoting the art of floral design through education, friendship and community engagement.  Visitors will experience an extraordinary contrast as colourful floral creations weave their way amongst the museum's remarkable collection of vintage lorries, buses and commercial vehicles.  Each exhibit has been specially designed to complement its surroundings, creating a unique celebration of creativity, engineering and craftsmanship.

Alongside the exhibition, visitors will be able to enjoy:
Around 25 unique floral exhibits throughout the museum.
Floral demonstrations and hands-on workshops.
Children's 'have a go' craft activities.
Full access to the museum's fascinating collection of historic commercial vehicles

Sara Barrow, Chairman of Flowers North West, said:
'This exhibition perfectly captures what Flowers North West is all about – creativity, imagination and bringing people together.  Celebrating our 65th anniversary in such an iconic venue makes it even more special. Flowers and commercial vehicles may seem an unlikely partnership, but both represent craftsmanship, skill and innovation. We hope visitors will be inspired by the beautiful contrast between engineering and nature and enjoy a truly memorable day out.'

The exhibition will feature some of the North West's most accomplished floral designers, including Diane Faunch, who will represent the UK at the 2027 World Flower Show in Sydney, and Ken Hough, winner of Best in Show at this year's Harrogate Flower Show.

Months of planning, creativity and craftsmanship will culminate in a spectacular four-day exhibition featuring hundreds of flowers, foliage and natural materials.  Every display is individually designed, ensuring that no two exhibits are the same.

Whether you're passionate about flowers, fascinated by transport heritage, or simply looking for something different to enjoy with family and friends, Petals & Pistons promises an inspiring and unforgettable experience.
