The Bay International Film Festival (TBIFF) is a vibrant celebration of cinema, set against the backdrop of Morecambe, a northern town known for its breathtaking sunsets and future potential as the home of the Eden Project North. Founded in 2023, this annual event transforms Morecambe into a hub of cultural engagement and artistic expression, attracting film enthusiasts and tourists alike.
The second edition of TBIFF is scheduled to featuring four weekends, packed with diverse film screenings and related activities. This month-long celebration of cinema offers a rich list of events, including Q&A sessions with filmmakers, film clubs, forums, and networking opportunities.
Festival partners, funders and sponsors include Reel Cinemas, Lancaster University, Lancashire County Council, Film hub North, The Granada foundation, Lancaster City Council, Morecambe Town Council, EDF Energy, Morecambe Bid, Final Draft, Shotdeck, Spitfire Audio, Festival Formula and West End Playhouse.
At the heart of TBIFF's mission is the desire to enrich the cinematic experience of both local audiences and visitors, by offering a diverse range of regional and international feature film programs. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to watch films not typically shown in the area, broadening their cinematic horizons and exposing them to new perspectives from around the world. One of the festival's key components is its short film competition 'Stories Beyond Borders', which attracts hundreds of entries from over 50 countries, as well as showcasing regional filmmakers. This competition highlights visually captivating and thought-provoking films that address social issues, raise awareness, and inspire audiences to reflect and initiate change.
The 2024 edition of TBIFF will feature an exciting lineup of events, including:
Short film programs showcasing animation, experimental works, and festival finalists.
Guest feature film screenings followed by Q&A sessions with filmmakers.
Community screenings with film club discussions over tea.
A special Women in Focus film forum celebrating female filmmakers and characters.
An eco-event featuring a documentary premiere and eco-party.
