To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the formation of the modern county council and museum service, the conservation and collection team have curated a selection of 50 Lancashire objects. Exploring the history of Lancashire, its people, places and traditions, through 50 objects in our collections.
The Silverdale Hoard is one of the largest Viking hoards discovered in the UK. Consisting of over 200 items it was found by a metal detectorist near Silverdale, Lancashire. The collection includes arm rings, ingots, coins and many other fragments of broken silver jewellery. The three armlets currently on display are available to view during our normal opening hours.
