About Kingfisher Cruises
Kingfisher Cruises was founded in 2008, operating on the Lancaster Canal, which runs between Preston in the south, through the stunning Lancashire countryside, to Tewitfield at its northern end.
The company is under new ownership since April 2025, with catering options and events to enjoy.
The afternoon tea cruises are a great favourite with all who try them. One person said they were better than the one they had at a Buckingham Palace garden party and another said they were better than Concord’s. Really, that’s true.
In the spring and summer months Kingfisher operates from Barton Grange Marina, between Garstang and Preston. Offering cruises that include afternoon tea, light lunch and fish and chip lunchtime and evening cruises.
The evening cruises either have quality entertainment, such as a Mamma Mia night with a fabulous singer, or include a quiz for the passengers.
During the autumn and winter, Kingfisher Cruises still operate from Barton Grange Marina, where the surrounding countryside continues to put on a stunning display of colours, including the flash of blue and orange from the resident kingfishers. Santa Specials are offered in December, where the children and adults have a great time.
The daytime cruises are normally one hour and 45 minutes and evening cruises two hours and 40 minutes.
Private cruise times and routes can be tailored to suit your preference.
Kingfisher can seat up to 48 passengers at indoor tables. There is also seating outside for six passengers. During the cruise, passengers can also enjoy the back deck to stand and chat with the boat master, as they steer the boat along the canal. There are refreshments available, including tea, coffee, soft and alcoholic drinks. Assorted snacks are also available. There are toilet facilities on board.
Free parking at the Flower Bowl Entertainments Centre car park.
Kingfisher Cruises are regulated by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, who perform annual inspections, which assures passengers that cruises are up to the high safety standards they expect. Kingfisher Cruises take this certification process very seriously. They are also licensed by the Canal and River Trust, the charity who look after the canal system.
