Clitheroe Station and Auction Mart – A Warm Lancashire Welcome
Begin your journey in Clitheroe, where the King arrived by Royal Train to be greeted by friendly crowds, local schoolchildren and Lancashire dignitaries. The atmosphere here is always welcoming, and the surrounding Ribble Valley scenery sets the tone for a beautiful day out. Clitheroe offers the perfect base for a fun filled day out, with a variety of independent shops, delicious food and drink and exciting events – it's somewhere to add to your travel list.
Next, wander over to Clitheroe Auction Mart, where King Charles met farmers, chatted about rural life, and even admired a Fell pony named Pearl — a relative of Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved pony, Emma. A visit here offers a rare chance to see authentic Lancashire farming heritage in action, and the onsite café is another delicious reason to visit.
The Ribble Valley - Scenic & Story‑Filled
As you make your way through the Ribble Valley, you’ll see exactly why the King enjoyed driving through this beautiful area. Think rolling hills, cosy villages, and some of the best food spots in the county. As well as The Forest of Bowland, a National Landscape which is perfect for hiking, cycling and photography.
Samlesbury Hall - Historic house and grounds
One of the King’s most historic moments came when he visited Samlesbury Hall, becoming the first monarch ever to set foot inside the 701‑year‑old manor.
A true royal welcome was made for the King as the impressive Shire Horses from nearby Thwaites awaited his arrival. After entering the spectacular Great Hall, the King enjoyed some delicious locally made treats by the fire. As well as the opportunity to speak to several other fantastic Lancashire businesses who visited for this remarkable occasion including BAE Systems and Booths.

End your day at Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses, where King Charles officially opened their new “cheese campus.” This family‑run business is famous for its award‑winning cheeses, including Blacksticks Blue — which the King sampled with blackcurrant jam on a ginger biscuit! Head down yourself and peek behind the scenes of artisan cheesemaking and treat yourself to some of the best dairy delights in the UK.
