About Kingfisher Cruises
Kingfisher Cruises was founded in 2008, operating on the Lancaster Canal, which runs between Preston in the south, through the stunning Lancashire countryside, to Tewitfield at its northern end. Under new ownership since 2025, with new catering options and events to enjoy.
In the spring and summer months Kingfisher operate from both Barton Grange Marina, near Preston, and also from Lancaster city centre. Offering cruises that include afternoon teas, light lunch and fish and chip lunchtime and evening cruises. The evening cruises either have quality entertainment, with a fabulous singer, or include a quiz for passengers. You will be seated at your own private table.
In autumn and winter, Kingfisher operate from Barton Grange Marina only, where the surrounding countryside continues to put on a stunning display of colours, including the flash of blue and orange from the resident kingfishers.
The daytime cruises are normally one hour and 45 minutes and evening cruises two hours and 45 minutes. Private cruises can be tailored to suit your preference.
Kingfisher can seat up to 54 passengers at indoor tables. There is also seating outside for six passengers. During the cruise, passengers can enjoy the back deck to stand and chat with the boatmaster, as they steer the boat along the canal.
There are refreshments available, including tea and coffee and both soft and alcoholic drinks. Assorted snacks are also available. There are toilet facilities on board.
Kingfisher Cruises are regulated by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, who perform annual inspections, which assures passengers that cruises are up to the high safety standards they expect, taking this certification very seriously. Also licensed by the Canal and River Trust, the charity who look after the canal system.
