About War Stories with Shelia Giles
Shelia is a former history teacher and historian and this thought provoking talk has been researched from personal accounts, footage and written text.
War Stories focusses on events in the Second World War, where Shelia uses photographs, music and spoken commentary to produce poignant stories of ordinary people caught up in the second world war and the long term effects experienced of living through those events.
What was it like to have been a Prisoner of War of the Japanese? What effect did flying Bombing Raids in a Lancaster or Wellington Bomber over enemy territory really have? How did children cope with sleeping in Air Raid Shelters and Anderson Shelters as Luftwaffe bombs fell across their Towns and Cities? Shelia will also discuss the affects of saying goodbye to their families as evacuation was ordered. We have recently lived through the Covid Pandemic, how did a Nation cope with coming out of WW2 and the challenges that followed victory.
Complimentary Hot/Cold Drink is included in the cost of the ticket at the interval.
