About Light Up Lancaster
Light Up Lancaster returns from 5–7 November 2026, transforming the city into a giant open-air gallery of light, colour and creativity.
Over three magical evenings, Lancaster’s streets, landmarks and public spaces will be filled with spectacular artworks and unexpected sights for visitors of all ages.
This year’s theme, No Boundaries, celebrates the connections and shared experiences that bring us together. There’s something for everyone, from Zero Knowledge, which turns audience contributions into ever-changing visual poetry, to Demonz, where you can take on mischievous digital creatures with soft balls, and Twist & Shine, a collection of light sculptures that visitors can twist and reshape themselves.
Families can also look forward to brand-new Fun Zones, where children and young people can play, create and get hands-on with art. This year, the festival extends into Williamson Park, where Garden of Shadows by Jony Easterby offers a magical trail of animated light inspired by the natural world. Free shuttle buses will run between the park and Dalton Square.
Light Up Lancaster is supported by Lancaster City Council and Arts Council England, with additional support from Hotfoot, English Lakes Hotels, Lancaster University, Lancaster University Confucius Institute, Lancaster University Impact Acceleration Programme, Cyberfocus, Arts and Humanities Research Council, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Lancashire County Council, The Duchy of Lancaster, Our Future Coast, Creative Lancashire, Preston City Mela, and UKBathroomstore
