Bowland Champion Species: Waxcap Watch Training

The UK is globally important for waxcap fungi, and the beautiful, pink ballerina waxcap is a particularly striking example!

Waxcaps and other grassland fungi can help to indicate the presence of ancient meadows and species-rich grasslands, providing the opportunity for these rare habitats to be protected into the future.

Join us at Wycoller Country Park near Colne to learn about the importance of grassland fungi, site management and identification features.

Guided by local ecologist, Dr Sarah Robinson, we'll focus on how to survey and record waxcaps and where to look for them in and around Bowland. No existing fungi ID skills needed!

Ballerina waxcaps are one of the 14 Champion Species at the heart of the Forest of Bowland National Landscape's Nature Recovery Plan. Join us to find out more about these fascinating fungi and the chance to take home a very special Champion Species goodie bag.
