About A Time To Carry: Phytography Workshop - The Whitaker Museum & Art Gallery

Join artist Dave Griffiths for a hands-on, creative workshop exploring the magic of 'phytography' a camera-less photographic process that uses the natural chemistry of plants to create images directly on film. During this 3-hour session, you will:

Collect & Craft: Gather wild plants from The Whitakers gardens and use their natural biochemistry, combined with non-toxic, eco-friendly developers, to react with photographic film.
Uncover Local History: Create unique plant archives on microfilm, a historic visual medium originally developed in Victorian Manchester for high-density archives.
Exhibit Your Work: Your finished botanical prints will be publicly displayed at The Whitaker on Sunday 8th November as part of the nationwide Being Human festival. We will present them using vintage microscopic viewers alongside historical optical objects from the museums collection.

No prior darkroom or photography experience is needed. All materials are provided, and you will leave with your own handmade plant-prints and a new way of seeing the green spaces around us.
