About Going Underground - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadgate Part 3 - The Harris

The focus of this the third instalment of the ‘Lamb Lies Down On Broadgate’ Preston Music History talk is a feature on the smaller venues that ran alongside the major venues like The Public Hall and The Guild Hall.

Preston based Author and Songwriter Dave Gardner has researched and uncovered an astonishing wealth of information and memorabilia relating to the emergence of the smaller live music venues and clubs that sprung up across the town from the Mid 60’s through to the late 70’s.

From the small coffee bars that played host to the emerging Liverpool bands of the early 1960’s where the local bands played alongside the legends of tomorrow in venues such as The Catacombs and The Beachcomber.

Hear the first hand stories of The British Folk Music Revival in the 60’s and 70’s which saw the birth of Preston Folk Club that had a weekly roster of guests that included Billy Connolly and Gerry Rafferty to name a few.

In the late 1960’s The Amethyst Club played host to the greats of the British Underground and Psychedelic/Progressive Bands like Genesis, Hawkwind, Quatermass and Trees.

The emergence of Punk and New Wave saw the rise in popularity of clubs like The Warehouse that attracted bands like Joy Division and The Stone Roses.
Another fascinating insight in to Preston’s rich musical heritage.
