About The Mobile Library at Queen Street Mill - Queen Street Mill Textile Museum, Briercliffe

We’re delighted to welcome the Briercliffe Mobile Library to Queen Street Mill Textile Museum as a brand new stop on its regular route.

From Thursday 28 May, the mobile library will stop outside Queen Street Mill between 1pm and 2pm, returning every three weeks as part of its ongoing rota. Lancashire County Council’s Mobile Library service brings the library to local communities, helping people access books and library services even if they don’t live near a static library. The dedicated mobile vans travel on a three weekly schedule and carry a wide range of books that are refreshed regularly, with new titles added often.

What can you do on board? Borrow books for all ages, including large print titles and, in some cases, audiobooks. Reserve books from anywhere in the Lancashire library network and collect them from the mobile library, just like a branch library. Join the library for free - new members can sign up directly on the vehicle. Enjoy a fully accessible service, with lifts available for visitors who need assistance (please note space limitations for large, motorised wheelchairs).

After browsing the library shelves, why not make a full day of it and pop in to explore the last surviving steam powered weaving mill in the world? Inside, visitors can join a guided tour and see demonstrations of the original textile machinery, led by knowledgeable guides and technicians. Or you can just pop into Queen Street Mill's Weavers Rest Café, and relax with your new book, a brew and a cake!
