The start of summer 2023 saw Greatest Days, the Take That Musical, hit our big screens and we couldn’t have been more excited. Did you know that Lancashire has featured on many productions over the years, both on the silver screen and at home? Take a look at some of the films and TV shows featuring parts of the county.

Greatest Days, Clitheroe
Released June 2023, Greatest Days in the latest film to star Lancashire. Featuring the streets of Clitheroe, Clitheroe Market and its dominating Castle, in the scenes where the main characters grow up.

Andor, Cleveleys Seafront
Calling all Star Wars fans! If you look closely in Episode 7 of Disney + Star Wars series Andor (2022), you might recognise that beach resort, as it was all filmed on Cleveley’s promenade.

The Kings Speech, Queen Street Mill, Burnley
This old cotton mill, now a museum, was once a huge part of the cotton industry in Burnley. Making it the perfect place for Colin Firth as young King George VI to attempt to address mill workers in a speech.

The Bay, Morecambe
With season 5 just announced, The Bay has been a huge success and stars many spots across Morecambe and its surrounding areas, look out for The Midland Hotel, the Police Station and of course Eric Morecambe’s statue.

Peaky Blinders & Brassic, Bacup
Not only did Peaky Blinders transform Lee Quarry in Bacup into a traditional gypsy camp for season six, the TV series has featured Beacon Fell and Ashton Memorial. Bacup also features regularly in the Sky series Brassic, as it forms the fictional town of Hawley where the main characters live.

A Monster Calls, Rivington
The Rivington countryside was perfect for shooting the rural scenes required for 2017 fantasy film A Monster Calls with Rivington Pike featuring in the film. The film also shows scenes from Preston and Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Miss Peregrine’s School for Peculiar Children, Blackpool
Tim Burton’s fantasy film, based on a young adult book, took over the promenade in 2015 for filming, with stars including Samuel L Jackson and Eva Green. The towns iconic tower and promenade feature heavily in the film and its trailer.

Brief Encounter, Carnforth
One of Lancashire’s older film location spots, Carnforth train station was the backdrop of the main characters’ encounter. The train station remains mostly unchanged, with the film’s refreshment room open for visitors to grab a bite to eat themselves.

Paddington 2, East Lancashire Railway
Paddington’s adventures take him further in Paddington 2, released in 2017, and he makes his way up to Lancashire to enjoy East Lancashire Railway’s The Crab as it travels the historic line.

Get Santa, Lancaster
Lancaster Castle’s prison wing was used as the filming location for Get Santa in 2015, when Jim Broadbent’s Santa was arrested. The prison wing can be viewed as part of the newly opened Lancashire Police Museum.
