Star is revealed for the Leyland Christmas light switch on!
Singer-songwriter Aston Merrygold has been announced as the special guest doing the honours of turning on Leyland’s Christmas lights for 2026.
Hosted by South Ribble Borough Council in partnership with Leyland Town Team, the big event will take place on Saturday 28 November on Hough Lane.
This fantastically fun day out for all the family will be sponsored by North Star Civil Engineering and Utilities, featuring Christmas market stalls, a brilliant line up of stage entertainment including a performance from Aston himself, and even a visit from the Grinch!
Councillor Matthew Farnworth, Cabinet member for Parks, Events and Culture, said: “The Christmas lights switch-on is a wonderful opportunity to bring people into Leyland town centre to enjoy the festive atmosphere and discover everything it has to offer. The event provides an important boost for our fantastic independent retailers, cafés and other businesses encouraging visitors to shop, eat and spend locally during the busy Christmas period.”
“We’re delighted to be working with Leyland Town Team once again to create a fun-filled day for all ages, with brilliant entertainment, local talent and plenty for everyone to enjoy.”
Martin Carlin, Chair of Leyland Town Team, said: “We’re thrilled to bring the Christmas lights switch-on back to Leyland for another year. The event continues to go from strength to strength through our partnership with South Ribble Borough Council.
“We can’t wait to welcome the brilliant Aston Merrygold to Leyland and kick off the festive season in style!”
The Christmas markets will open at 12pm, with stage entertainment from 1.30pm, all leading up to the big switch on moment at 5.30pm.
Hough Lane will be closed to traffic from 6am to 10pm on the day of the event. Diversion routes will be in place.
