Heritage Open Day events in Lancashire
Heritage Open Days return to Lancashire from the 11th - 20th September and once again a range of events have been planned to celebrate the fantastic history and culture. It's your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are FREE to explore. A rare opportunity to visit a Grade I listed building steeped in history, myth and legend. For two days only, Lancashire County Council’s Outdoor Education Service will throw open its doors, offering you a unique glimpse into its storied past. Take a self-guided tour to discover insights on this fascinating house.

Yesterday Everyday: Mini Museum of Retro Tech

It’s time to rewind to the past! Explore a selection of analogue & retro technology that was once part of everyday life. From vintage cameras and film projectors to floppy disks and typewriters, you’ll be able to touch, hold and explore a number of the items on display. Type a memo, watch a film on early formats, play a retro video game or even record your voice on tape with this time capsule of nostalgia and treasure trove of fascinating oddities.

Kennington Primary 'Bubble' classroom

Visit a 1970s architectural innovation, the ‘bubble’ classroom at Kennington Primary School. This was the first fully structural plastic building in Britain, and is still in use today. It's in the form of a modified icosahedron – a 20-sided shape made up of triangles – and is made of self-supporting glassfibre-reinforced plastic (GRP) panels.

Blackburn Cathedral Bell Ringing Drop in Session

Step inside one of Lancashire’s most iconic buildings and join a guided bellringing drop-in session to learn more about the famous bells, meet the bellringing team, see items from the archives and even hear about the bells in action.

St George's Church - Preston's Hidden Gem

Discover a hidden gem of Preston. Nestled between shops and carparks lies St George's Church, unassuming from the outside, the church houses unique wall paintings and a majestic Father Willis organ built in 1865.
