Darwen Festival of Fun returns for sixth year

Darwen Festival of Fun returns on Saturday 29th August 2026, bringing a vibrant programme of free family entertainment, creative activities, artisan markets and street food to Darwen Market Square from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Proudly funded by Darwen Town Council and curated by Crafty Vintage in partnership with Let’s Make, with support from Blackburn with Darwen Council, the festival continues to grow as one of the town’s most popular annual events, attracting families and visitors from across the region.

A celebration of creativity and community

Co-founder of Crafty Vintage, Laura E Johnson, said the festival continues to be about bringing people together in the heart of the town through creativity and shared experience.

“Darwen Festival of Fun has always been about bringing people together in the heart of the town to celebrate creativity, performance and community spirit,” said Laura. “Seeing Market Square filled with families enjoying free entertainment, discovering local makers and taking part in hands-on activities is exactly what this festival is all about. We’re incredibly proud to bring it back for a sixth year and continue building something that belongs to the people of Darwen.”

This year’s festival will feature a packed programme of live entertainment and interactive experiences, including roving theatre, stilt walkers, dancers, a live samba band, aerial performers, circus adventures and immersive installations such as the Art Explora Mobile Museum, the specially curated exhibition “Shaped by the Sea,” and The Sound Garden and Rhythm Rave Workshops.

Families can also enjoy face painting, hands-on creative activities, and traditional fairground rides throughout the day, alongside a bustling artisan market showcasing local makers and independent traders. A street food village will offer a wide selection of food and drink options.

Darwen Town Council said the festival has become a key part of the town’s cultural calendar and plays an important role in supporting the local community and economy.

“Darwen Town Council is proud to support the Festival of Fun, which has become a highlight of the town’s events calendar,” said Councillor Anthony Shaw, Leader of Darwen Town Council. “It brings visitors into the town centre, supports local businesses and creates a fantastic free day out for families. We are delighted to see the continued partnership between Crafty Vintage, Let’s Make and local organisations in delivering such a vibrant community event.”
