Liane Lang's project Touch Stone talks about human industry and activity in the landscape, showing traces and materials from bark to lead, stone to rusty industrial salvage.
Liane approaches this history with an eye to deep time and constant change. The mixture of material fascination and fragmented storytelling allows us to contemplate our actions in the landscape differently, as we prepare for the cataclysmic changes we must now make globally in how things are made and done. Lang explores a unique space between sculpture and photography, drawing together a material, haptic experience and the narrative and time related language of photography.
Liane Lang is a mixed-media artist with a focus on the conversation between sculpture and photography. In her work, she frequently prints images onto objects to explore the tension between the narrative and historical and the texture, scale and presence of the object. Lang takes a particular interest in monuments, statues and historic spaces and uses a wide range of materials from bark, lead and leather to marble and bronze.
