The Whitaker

Set in beautiful parkland surrounded by the breath-taking views of Rossendale Valley, The Whitaker connects people to nature, culture, and each other through creativity. We create opportunities to explore a range of topics - from serious issues to the light-hearted; the big questions to small wonders. We do this in a sometimes challenging, but always in an inclusive and supported way.

You can spend all day at The Whitaker; wandering through our museum you will encounter our infamous Tiger and Python scene, the two animals locked in a battle to the death! Discover our changing programme of art exhibitions, dine in our café, experience the tranquillity of the garden, take in the views of the valley or explore the park. You can even leave with freshly picked herbs from the Incredible Edible garden right outside!

In our brand new research space you can get up close to our collections and investigate your family history. There are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved, to learn, participate and contribute to the story of The Whitaker. Our exciting programme of activities includes film nights, live music, family activities, tours and talks.

We are currently redeveloping our site and extending the building. We can’t wait to welcome you to our wondrous place in the heart of Lancashire when we reopen in June 2021!
