Viking Weaving at Queen Street Mill

Enjoy a hands-on, family friendly activity exploring Viking weaving.

Step into the world of longships, sagas, and skilled craftsmanship this summer at Queen Street Mill, as we journey back over a thousand years to the time of the Vikings!

In this hands-on, family-friendly session, you'll discover how Viking communities created their clothing and textiles using time-honoured techniques.

Try your hand at weaving on a peg loom and learn the art of braiding—just like people in the Viking Age did to produce beautiful decorative fabrics and woven bands. Experience the resourcefulness and creativity of the Viking Age, where every thread told a story. From practical garments to intricate embellishments, you'll explore how textiles were central to Viking life and identity.

Your ticket includes full admission to Queen Street Mill. After your Viking weaving adventure, continue exploring the museum, watch historic looms in motion, and trace the incredible journey of textile production from ancient times to the modern era. A fun and immersive way to bring history to life for bold young explorers and history-loving grown-ups alike!
