Join us at Horse + Bamboo for a night live Music as part of this new 'Access All Areas' Uk Tour by Ruth Lyon and Sydney based artist, Eliza Hull.
.
COVID-19 forced the music industry to its knees. But it has also presented us with a unique opportunity to re-build with improved attitudes, access and inclusion in the music industry for disabled people worldwide. In partnership with charity Attitude Is Everything, Access All Areas UK tour will showcase disabled artists and activists, Ruth Lyon (UK) and Eliza Hull (AUS), who will not only perform but also give a talk on the barriers that disabled musicians face in the music industry, the ways venues, labels and festivals can improve accessibility and representation for artists and audiences.
Ruth Lyon, from Newcastle-Upon Tyne, explores themes of self-doubt, insecurity, emotional masochism, and the weight of arbitrary expectations – all unravelling through offbeat, sophisticated chamber pop and anti-folk, commanded by her soulful vocals and witty yet raw lyricism. Known for her work as a key and active member of the Newcastle music scene, notably her role on the board of trustees at Sage Gateshead, and vocalist and co-founder of Newcastle cult folk-rockers Holy Moly & The Crackers, Ruth Lyon is also an ardent advocate for the disabled community; Lyon herself has been a wheelchair user since the age of 21.
.
Sydney based artist, Eliza Hull, is an award-winning musician. Her music has been described as 'stirring, captivating and heartfelt' . She is regularly played on radio nationally and internationally including on ABC, RN, BBC, double j and triple j. She recently performed her new song 'Running Underwater' on ABC'S Q & A and performed at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and Big Sound Festival to showcase and present a panel on accessibility. Recently Eliza was awarded the Music Victoria 'Amplify' award, the APRA mentorship for women in music, the National Leadership Award from the Australia Council and Arts Access Australia and The Women In Music Award.
