Lempen Puppet returns to Horse + Bamboo for the public premier of their new show The Squabble.
There is sand, blue sky, sunshine and the breath of the sea, a hand appears, becomes animal, then comes another. Together they must share this small corner of land. This involves discovery of the other, playfulness, intolerance, conflict, argument, destruction, and then, reconciliation in the rain. After the storm, the mood calms down, there is tenderness, love and peace.
Two hands meet, play, quarrel and reconcile. What could be simpler? Life told and summarised with two hands. The puppet and the theatre in the most simple of settings. A little moment as warm as the sun, to hold in your hands. This show was born from a particular desire to address very young children with hands; they are both hands as objects and hands as characters. From the hands come the caresses, the blows, the prohibitions, the directions, the hugs.
A simple sharing story told without words for young children.
The performance goes as follows:
10 minute meet and greet the audience by playing the Hang drum and getting the audience ready for the show.
25 minute for the performance of The Squabble.
15 minute sensory, post show activity.
