
HAPPA (Horses and Ponies Protection Association) is inviting families to enjoy a packed programme of horse-themed activities at Shores Hey Farm in Briercliffe, Burnley, during the May half-term.
The half-term programme begins with the Country & Western Hoedown on Saturday 23rd May from 5pm to 9pm, as HAPPA invites visitors to saddle up for an evening of live country music, Wild West entertainment and family-friendly fun with Bee Smith, Country Singer. Guests can enjoy a range of themed activities, including a bucking bronco challenge (extra charge applies), Western games, face painting, a Best Dressed Cowboy & Cowgirl competition, and karaoke throughout the evening. Whether attending as a country music fan, with family, or with friends, visitors can expect a lively event filled with music, laughter, and community spirit. HAPPA will also host Own a Pony Day on Saturday 23rd May and Wednesday 27th May from 10am to 3pm. Designed for young equestrians aged 6 to 16, the experience offers participants the opportunity to build confidence, develop practical skills and expand their knowledge through a variety of interactive sessions. Advance booking required.
On Tuesday 26th May, Pony Grooming sessions will take place from 11am to 3pm, giving children aged 4+ and adults the chance to groom one of HAPPA’s gentle horses under the supervision of an experienced member of staff. The sessions offer a firsthand opportunity to get up close to the ponies and learn more about their care.
Pony Maze, taking place on 29th May from 1pm to 2:30pm, will give participants aged 6+ the opportunity to lead a pony through a simple maze while learning how to communicate, guide and build trust with these remarkable animals.
On Saturday 30th May, HAPPA will hold its Tack Room Clear Out Sale, offering local riders, equestrians, and horse owners the chance to browse a wide selection of second-hand tack, riding wear, and equestrian essentials. From saddlery and horse rugs to riding clothing and yard equipment, the sale promises opportunities to find a bargain. The event offers an opportunity for visitors to pick up quality riding gear for the spring and summer season at affordable prices while connecting with fellow equestrians from across Burnley and the surrounding area.
Looking ahead, HAPPA Dog Show - Woof Shack Explosion will take place on 7th June from 11am to 4pm, bringing together dogs and their owners for a sociable day of fun, games, and prizes. The event promises something for dog lovers, families, and supporters of HAPPA alike.
Also on 7th June, pony rides will be available from 1pm to 2:30pm, offering children and young people a safe, enjoyable introduction to riding while supporting equine welfare.
Standard site entry charges apply to all activities unless otherwise stated as a ticketed event, with admission priced at £6 per adult and £1 per child. More Than Just a Day Out

While visiting Shores Hey Farm, guests can also enjoy refreshments at the HAPPA Café, open daily from 9am to 3:30pm, with late opening until 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
The HAPPA Direct Shop will also be open, offering a wide range of gifts, toys, and equestrian essentials, including both new and pre-loved items.
