Beaches in Fleetwood, Cleveleys and Rossall receive Seaside Awards; Fleetwood, Cleveleys and Rossall celebrate national recognition for coastal excellence.

Four beaches across Wyre will proudly fly Seaside Award flags this summer after being recognised among England’s best by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

Jubilee Beach in Cleveleys, Marine Beach and Ferry Beach in Fleetwood, and Rossall Beach have all achieved the prestigious Seaside Award for 2026, highlighting the quality, cleanliness and excellent management of Wyre’s coastline.

The announcement comes as the international Blue Flag and Seaside Awards programme marks its 39th year, celebrating the very best beaches across the country. Wyre’s continued success reflects the authority’s commitment to maintaining over 18 kilometres of diverse and beautiful coastline.

Councillor Roger Berry, Deputy Leader of Wyre Council and Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services and Community Safety, said:

“Receiving Seaside Awards for four of our beaches is a tremendous honour and a testament to the dedication of our community and partners in keeping our coastline clean, safe and welcoming. With our Seaside Award flags flying high this summer, residents and visitors can feel confident they are enjoying beaches that meet nationally recognised standards.”

“This achievement is only possible through the hard work and passion of our staff, volunteers, local beach care groups and partner organisations. We thank them all for helping us protect and preserve our coastline for future generations.”

The Seaside Awards recognise beaches that meet strict standards for safety, cleanliness and environmental management. They are a trusted indicator for visitors seeking high-quality coastal destinations.

Assessment criteria include:

  • Safety and services, such as first aid provision and lifeguards where necessary
  • Environmental information, including education about local ecosystems
  • Environmental management, such as effective litter and waste control
  • Water quality, with Seaside Award beaches required to meet at least a ‘sufficient’ standard

Wyre Council works closely with partners across the North West to enhance beach quality and bathing waters. Key initiatives include the Beach Management Scheme and participation in the Our Future Coast partnership, both of which play a vital role in protecting and improving the local environment.

This latest recognition reinforces Wyre’s reputation as a top coastal destination and highlights its ongoing commitment to environmental excellence.
