
This summer, some of South Ribble’s much loved green spaces will host an exciting programme of brand-new events called Parks Alive.
Parks Alive events, will take place from 24 May to 31 August 2026 and will include something for all the family to enjoy, from brass band concerts and outdoor theatre productions to children’s activities and more.
Councillor Matthew Farnworth, South Ribble Borough Council Cabinet Member (Parks, Events and Culture) said: “We’re delighted to launch this new programme of events that will bring South Ribble communities together to enjoy activities and entertainment in some of the beautiful green spaces across the borough.
“By working alongside our fantastic community and volunteer groups, we’re able to create something special for residents and visitors alike.”
Many of the Parks Alive events will be free to attend and will take place at outdoor venues spanning the borough:
- Bubble Blast, an afternoon of family fun featuring some of the region’s best bubble entertainers will take place on Sunday 24 May and Bank holiday Monday 31 August in Worden Park.
- Residents and visitors are invited to bring along a picnic and blanket to enjoy 6 free outdoor brass band concerts on Sundays - 24 May (Worden Park, Leyland), 7 June (Farington Park), 19 July (Tardy Gate park, Lostock Hall), 26 July (Hurst Grange Park, Penwortham), 16 August (Withy Grove Park, Bamber Bridge), 30 August (Worden Park).
- The Friends of South Ribble Parks are leading a Five-Park Amble on Sunday 28 June which encompasses some of South Ribble’s finest and interesting parks and urban green spaces. Free, but pre-registration required due to limited places.
- Children can enjoy free woodland-based activity camps at Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve on Sunday 23 August offering hands on exploration and outdoor fun for children. Free activity but tickets required for children.
- In addition to the many free events, this exciting programme also features two paid for ticketed outdoor theatre events, set to captivate audiences on the lawns of Worden Hall; A family friendly performance of the classic The Tales of Peter Rabbit by Quantum Theatre Co. will take place on Thursday 27 August, and on Saturday 11 July, A Place for Us Theatre Company will present performances of two of Shakespeare’s most read and loved plays in one special event; Romeo and Juliet, and Hamlet.
