Hundreds gathered on Friday 20th February to celebrate Animate's first birthday.

The free family fun day brought joy, music and entertainment to the Harris Quarter during the February half-term. Families enjoyed a packed schedule of activities delivered by the locally based Fun Experts, including circus skills workshops and classic funfair games, while local DJ Danny Bee kept the party going with live music throughout the day.

People arrived early to get their hands on one of the 200 free goodie bags, which were snapped up within the first 30 minutes. Each bag included a complimentary ticket to Arc Cinema, a free game of bowling and a few extra treats.

Children were star struck meeting some of their favourite characters, with Spider-Man, Hulk and Elsa making special appearances. They delighted diners across the Animate venues, and Spider-Man even squeezed in a few bowls at Hollywood Bowl.

Wagamama added an educational twist to the event with their impressive giant Bento Box activity, and those who took part were treated to free bento boxes at their restaurant.

The Madam Mayor of Preston joined in the celebrations and said:
“It was great to see so many families turning out to celebrate Animate’s first birthday, even the rain could not dampen the mood. I had a great time meeting visitors, chatting with the staff and even bumping into the Hulk. I may not have mastered juggling just yet, but I gave it a good go. A fabulous event, and I am looking forward to Animate building on a successful year.”

Throughout the day, tenants reported a notable uplift in walk-ins, as visitors stayed to dine, explore and enjoy the venues after attending the event.

In true birthday fashion, the celebrations ended on a high note as crowds gathered to sing Happy Birthday to everyone’s favourite “criminal” … Feathers McGraw. And perhaps Feathers was controlling the weather all along, because shortly after the event finished, the grey skies cleared to reveal glorious blue ones.
The success of Animate’s first birthday bash reflects a landmark year of growth, community engagement and continued investment in creating a vibrant space in the heart of the city for residents and visitors.
