From House to Page: Local Authors bring Moorside House Book Series to life at Oswaldtwistle Mills event

A story born just down the road is coming home. On Sunday 1 February at 1:00pm, Oswaldtwistle Mills will host a unique local event celebrating Lancashire storytelling, history, and Lancashire gin. Visitors are invited to meet local authors who live in Altham’s Moorside House itself - the atmospheric setting that inspired their new gothic crime novel series, The Series of Silence.

The event features a live reading from the book, offering audiences a chilling glimpse into a story shaped by the very walls and history of the house the authors call home.

The atmospheric book is a real page turner. Bound by a crime they can’t undo, the Overaugh family must decide how far they are willing to go to survive the consequences of one irreversible night - before the house, the truth, or each other tears them apart. Would you tell the truth… if telling it meant losing everything?

After the reading, guests can enjoy a tasting of Moorside Craft Gin, a locally made spirit inspired by the same brooding atmosphere of historic Moorside House and the surrounding Lancashire landscape. Both the book and the gin will be available to purchase on the day.

“Moorside House isn’t just the setting of the story - it’s where we live, write, and experience it every day,” said Heath Groves, co-author of The Series of Silence. “This book grew out of the history, the atmosphere, and the quiet moments that come from living here in Altham. Being able to share that story locally, just down the road at Oswaldtwistle Mills, feels incredibly special. It’s a chance to invite people inside the world of the story for an afternoon.”

This free-entry event is a celebration of local creativity, bringing together literature, place, and flavour -rooted firmly in the community it comes from.
