As the days grow crisper and the landscapes glow with autumn colour, WWT Martin Mere in Burscough transforms into one of Lancashire’s most enchanting autumn experiences. The skies and waters fill with thousands of migratory birds and some of the most spectacular wildlife moments of the year unfold. For anyone who loves nature, this is a season not to miss.
Spanning 600 acres of wetland habitat, Martin Mere is a vital stopover for migrating birds, including Lancashire’s much-loved pink-footed geese. Visiting all the way from Iceland, these remarkable birds roost on the mere throughout autumn and winter, setting off at dawn and returning at dusk in flocks that fill the skies and soundscapes with life.

North West Bird Watching Festival 18 & 19 October
A weekend filled with wildlife activities such as bird ringing demonstrations and guided walks, expert guest speakers, and exhibitors, this is an event not to be missed.
Dawn Flights throughout October
Join a warden for an early morning visit to see the pink-footed geese as they set off in a flurry at dawn, before heading for a full English breakfast in the Mere Side Cafe.

Late Night Openings
The centre will be opening its reserve for free after 5:30pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout October.
