Love a period drama? Be swept back to an era of elegance, scandal and sophistication as a sparkling new production of NOËL & GERTIE comes to Blackpool Grand Theatre from Wednesday 15 October to Saturday 18 October for one week only!
This stylish love letter to a bygone age is a rare opportunity to experience two of the 20th century’s most iconic figures live on stage and be transported back to the glittering glamour of the West End. Don’t miss out!
Audiences across the whole of the UK are loving period drama like never before. From Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale packing audiences into cinemas with its charming cameo of the one and only Noël Coward, to Claire Foy and Richard E. Grant in the blockbuster new British black comedy film Savage House, and the BBC’s upcoming ten-part Austen spin-off The Other Bennet Sister; British high society storytelling is dominating the screen. Netflix’s lavish saga The House of Guinness and the proposed The Seven Dials Mystery, the epic historical intrigue of King & Conqueror and lush TV productions like The Leopard and Death by Lightning all highlight one thing: audiences are hungry for wit, glamour and unforgettable characters from the past.
And The Grand is here to deliver a sparkling new production that’s just the ticket… Audiences will be Mad About the Boy and the girl as talented theatre actors Gary Tushaw (Sunset Boulevard, Sweeney Todd, The Mousetrap) and Rebecca Trehearn (Ghost, Showboat, Sweet Charity) sweep onto The Grand stage to bring style, sophistication and plenty of scandalous laughter in this charming celebration of the lifelong friendship between two of Britain’s most beloved stage icons – Noël Coward and Gertrude Lawrence.
Audiences will be swept back to the golden age of West End theatre to celebrate the special bond between the famous playwright and the renowned actress through a series of magical memories and memorable musical numbers from Coward’s works, including Private Lives and the classic Don’t Put Your Daughter on The Stage, Mrs Worthington. For four nights only, theatregoers can immerse themselves in the glamour, warmth, and humour that made Coward and Lawrence unforgettable and leave with memories that will last a lifetime.
Noël & Gertie also explores the fascinating relationship between two of the 20th century’s most iconic figures as Noël Coward’s wonderfully wicked wit and panache for life meets Gertrude Lawrence’s effortless elegance and grace in this heartfelt journey full of warmth and nostalgia, which is directed by Thom Southerland (Titanic the Musical, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Illusionist).
Whether you’re craving more Noël Coward after the Downton Abbey finale, longing for the wit of Austen in The Other Bennet Sister or anticipating the intrigue of King & Conqueror, Noël & Gertie gives you the ultimate live experience. This is your chance to see history, glamour and music collide live on stage - and only in Blackpool!
