Sir David Attenborough arrives at Madame Tussauds Blackpool

Beloved national treasure, biologist and broadcaster, Sir David Attenborough, has been immortalised in wax at Madame Tussauds Blackpool.  

In recognition of the 97-year-old’s on-screen animal-antics, Sir David’s brand-new lifelike figure was joined by a Burmese python, tegu lizard, geckos, and tarantula, as it was unveiled at the famous Blackpool Promenade attraction.  

The new figure of Sir David, who is known for creating and narrating award-winning BBC wildlife films, Life on Earth, Planet Earth and Frozen Planet, is sporting the classic Attenborough look - a blue short-sleeved shirt, chinos, brown shoes and a watch. 

Sir David’s doppelganger can now be viewed by visitors in a brand-new area created by Madame Tussauds Blackpool especially for the figure. 

This is the second time the conservationist and natural historian has been immortalised by Madame Tussauds Blackpool. 

Janine Marshall, Head of Operations at Madame Tussauds Blackpool, said: “From humans to animals, everyone loves the legend that is Sir David Attenborough.  

“It was befitting to unveil Sir David’s new lifelike figure with a number of exotic animals in honour of his globe-trotting adventures and multiple BBC programmes. A true British icon, his unmistakable smooth voice and natural delivery means he continues to inspire curiosity and awe for the natural world.  

“Sir David is incomparable and his new figure, carefully created by our talented team to feature every single detail, truly captures his gentle, calming and reassuring presence and will enthral visitors young and old.”  

Featuring more than 80 famous faces, Madame Tussauds Blackpool gives visitors the chance to get up close with their heroes, from sporting stars to TV favourites, movie icons, singing sensations and everything in between.  

It takes a team of 25 artists to work on one wax figure, spending a total of 800 hours collectively. This includes: 350 hours to sculpt the figure, 187 hours to insert a head of hair and 30 hours to make a set of teeth.
