The Lowther Pavilion Theatre in Lytham is working with Mellor & Rose, local Calligraphers and Lettering Artists, to create a free trail of quotes in their historic gardens to celebrate Shakespeare’s Birthday.

Tim Lince, Lowther’s CEO/Artistic Director, said: “As we celebrate Shakespeare’s Birthday, we thought it would be a fantastic way to work with local artists to bring the theatre of the written word to life with calligraphy, and to also disrupt what people are used to seeing in our gardens.”

Following Shakespear’s Birthday weekend, on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 June, The Duke’s Theatre Company will be presenting their critically-acclaimed outdoor performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Featuring innovative production design to support the unparalleled energy of the companies wonderful cast and original music so that Shakespeare’s songs are heard in a whole new way.

The quotes, which include everything from The Scottish Play to The Tempest, have been painted at various points along the paths throughout the gardens to encourage visitors to explore and learn. Each quote is unlabelled and visitors are invited to collect a free worksheet from the theatre’s Box Office for a chance to win tickets to an outdoor Summer performance of Twelfth Night.
