Join the ranks of theatre fans who have been swept away by Michael Morpurgo’s Private Peaceful as the powerful drama of incredible courage and lasting friendship visits Blackpool Grand Theatre from Monday 2 to Saturday 7 May.

The Peaceful brothers, Tommo and Charlie, have a tough rural childhood facing the loss of their father, financial hardship and a cruel landlord. Their fierce loyalty to each other pulls them through, until one day they both fall for the same girl. And then the Great War comes…

In this critically acclaimed new stage adaptation of Private Peaceful by theatrical powerhouse Simon Reade, the horrors of conflict are set against the endearing love between the two brothers. Against the epic backdrop of WW1, we join 18-year-old Private Tommo Peaceful in the trenches as he takes us on a journey through his most cherished memories and tells his unforgettable story of courage, devotion, family and friendship.

Renowned author Michael Morpurgo has a true talent for magical storytelling and often uses vivid settings for his characters as they overcome deep adversity - such as natural disasters or the brutality of war. His acclaimed novel Private Peaceful was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal, won the Red House Children’s Book Award and the Blue Peter Book Award and is acknowledged by Morpurgo as his favourite work.

The camaraderie of comrades in arms and the emotional human fallout of battle has long been a rich and captivating subject for the stage, with audiences flocking to countless award-winning productions. The reviews have shone for the incredible puppetry in the National Theatre’s War Horse; the poignance of All Quiet on the Western Front; the satire of the hit stage musical Oh! What a Lovely War! and Shakespeare’s classic masterpiece The Wars of the Roses.
